When Covid-19 struck, we soon realised that Mozambique’s social security fund would not pay unemployment grants. We made the only decision that felt right, to ride it out, together.
We refused to retrench anybody, and have been doing everything we can to stick together as a team. This has meant cutting costs, leaving us with no electricity, and liquidating assets such as vehicles, beds, linen, fridges and more.
We have also converted our camping spots into communal vegetable gardens and supplied fishing tackle to the men in our team to help them feed their families. We have been busy doing chores for other people and companies to make what little we can for our staff.
Six months later, there is no end in sight. Having done everything we can, we are now left with one last option…to appeal for assistance from you. We are desperate to support our staff through this difficult time, as the innocent victims of this global pandemic, and we humbly ask for your help.
